Police Officer – New Recruit

Minimum Qualifications

- Must be a U.S. citizen or have been a lawful resident of the United States for the past ten consecutive years.
- Must have a high school diploma or GED.
- Must be at least 21 years of age prior to completion of the field training program.
- Successful applicants must pass a physical agility test.
- Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia driver’s license with no more than six demerit points in the past twelve months or a DUI conviction within the past four years.
- Must have binocular vision of 20/25 corrected and weight in proportion to height.
- No conviction of felonies and/or habitual misdemeanors.
- No conviction of, or guilty plea or no contest plea to: misdemeanor sex offense, or any domestic assault.
- Must pass an extensive background investigation, which includes a polygraph and a psychological, medical, and drug screening.
- Must participate in pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
- This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the U.S. Department of Justice’s “Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy” and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check.
- Recruit starting salary is $60,147.

Lateral Officer Program
The Chesterfield County Police Department is excited to accept lateral transfers for those with certifications in the state of Virginia, as well as out of state. Candidates who are selected will attend an abbreviated 14-week orientation and a full field training experience to maximize assimilation and familiarization. Your training will emphasize Chesterfield County Police Department’s philosophy, policies and procedures.

The Police Service Aide position is a great opportunity for aspiring CCPD officers. Duties include responding to calls for service that are not in progress, conducting victim and witness interviews, processing evidence, preparing detailed police reports, interacting with community members, and performing other duties in a field assignment.

- This is a full-time position with a starting salary of $43,735 annually. Those hired for this position will attend a 10-week paid academy prior to beginning their field assignment.

The Chesterfield County Police Department’s Student Intern Program provides a positive learning environment for interested college students to experience the various aspects and responsibilities of law enforcement while completing a project as part of their studies. Interns are invited to complete 160 internship hours.

- Be enrolled in either a two-year or four-year accredited institution, have completed 12 credit hours prior to submitting the application or be enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited institution and possess a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
